The new financial year is here! If you’re like the business owners I’ve spoken with recently, it’s a milestone worth celebrating. From the end of JobKeeper, to snap lockdowns, wage increases and tax returns, it has been a tiring year.

I believe it is a time to start with a fresh perspective. Whilst we’re learning to live within a pandemic, there is some light at the end of the tunnel. There has never been a better time to reflect on the successes (or challenges you have overcome) this year. It’s also a great time to update your strategy for the coming 6 months.

In my business, I’ll be reviewing 5 key areas to set myself up for success.

Reviewing my website

I might be spoiling the surprise, but I’ve got a NEW website in the works, which I’m so excited about! Although you don’t need to create a new website every year, it’s a smart idea to:

  • Review your content. Ensure what is stated is accurate to the offer and you’re not making promises you can no longer deliver.
  • Review your Terms of Use (get my template for your site). Take the time to read these terms; they apply to you as well as your customer. Ensure they cover the specific issues that may have arisen in the previous 6-12 months.
  • Don’t forget the Privacy Policy. Privacy Policies are mandatory and need to comply with Australian Privacy Principles and the GDPR. They can be clear-cut for most service and product-based businesses (get your template here) but more complex if you collecting sensitive information for example health information. I’ll be double-checking that my practices reflect what I’ve said I will do in my privacy policy.

Refreshing my business plan

If COVID-19 taught us anything, it should be that nothing is certain. In saying that, I recommend a business plan to keep on track, despite the distractions that come our way. Reviewing and refreshing my business plan halfway through the year means I can realign my activities and investments (of time and/or money) for the remainder of the year.

It triggers me to ensure I have the right people supporting me in my business. Plus, set up the right contracts (here’s how you can get yours reviewed), to protect both parties.

Checking my insurance policies

My business is an important asset, so insurance is critical to me. I like to review my existing insurance policies annually. Then I can be confident they still provide the level of cover I need.

I use this time to request Certificates of Currencies from my support team and keep them on file. If you’re working with contractors, you may benefit from a Contract Review, or a custom-prepared contract to effectively manage these arrangements. You can book a 10-minute call here, to discuss your specific needs further.

Asking how I can better be of service

This year, I’ve been lucky enough to share my wisdom on podcasts and news articles, to support other small business owners. It is a great source of happiness, and I’m honoured to be of service.

Now, it’s time to ask myself and my audience, how can I be of service at a higher level for the remainder of 2021? How can I help your business thrive this year? Schedule a 10-minute call and let me know what your business needs to up-level and let me help.

Did you know I have a variety of useful, FREE checklists, perfect for small businesses? Please download them and implement them in your business. Then, let me know what you’d like to see released next!

Taking myself through my Self Advocacy Session

What is self advocacy? Self-advocacy means a person’s ability to effectively communicate, negotiate, or assert their own desires, needs, and rights. Self-advocacy means making informed decisions and taking responsibility for those decisions.

My Powerless to Empowered: Self Advocacy Sessions for Entrepreneurs business owners through a process to identify and improve business processes and relationships and to tap into and enhance your self advocacy abilities.

It’s a GREAT process for my clients. And it’s an exercise that I benefit from myself, as a small business owner, just like you. It gives me the confidence to stand in my truth and act from an aligned place.

If any of these areas have triggered you to take smart, aligned action in your business too, let’s talk. I would love to help you move through the next 6 months with confidence in your business practices and contracts.
